    • There were 13 baptisms performed by the missionary Gosselin in the year 1741 in the area around St-Antoine, which were not immediately entered into parish records. The records were established by means of affadavits sworn by witnesses to the acts and were appended to the parish register for the year 1749. The baptism of Marie-Joseph Allard was one such record. Her baptism is registered on 17 August 1749 with the following (translated) text:

"In the year 1749, on the 17 of August before us, the undersigned priest, appeared Pierre Archambault and Pierre Joubour, who after having sworn... etc., have affirmed that on 14th February 1741, a girl was born of the legitimate marriage of Joseph Meri Allard and Marie Jeanne Guertin, which said girl was brought the next day to the church to be baptised and was baptised by M. Gosselin, missionary for their said location, by giving her the name Marie Joseph. The godfather was Pierre Archambault and the godmother was Marie Louise Chefdevergue to which the above named have affirmed as true and, as required by law, have declared they are unable to sign this statement ."

    • Marriage contract not found. Records of one notary from Contrecoeur area at the time were destroyed by fire. Also possible a contract never prepared, although it was customary for about 60% of marriages at the time. From church record, Meri was accompanied at the altar by his father, brother Simon and two uncles, Pierre Archambault and Augustine Maillet from Riviere-des-Prairies. Some sons of Pierre Archambault had already established themselves in St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu a few years earlier. Meri and his father were the only ones to sign the record along with the priest, Chardon. All others, including the bride, stated they were unable to sign The young couple settled immediately after on Meri's new concession in St-Anotoine-sur-Richelieu where they spent the rest of their lives.
