Bronxville, N.Y. (AP) 3 Oct 1967 - Brig. Gen. John Stetson Allard, World War II chief of staff of the Eighth Air Force and former vice-president of the Curtiss-Wright Corp., died at Lawrence Hospital today after a long illness.
Gen. Allard had been a member of the executive board of the Air Force Academy and was one of the founders of the Air Force Association.
A native of Boston, he lived in Bronxville in recent years. He is survived by his widow, Helen Martin Allard, a son, John M. Allard, of Ashland, Ky., a brother, Norman B. Allard, of Plymouth, Mass., and two grandchildren.
Gen. Allard was with Curtiss-Wright from 1929 until he returned to active military service in 1941. In addition to being vice president of the firm, he was president and general manager of the Curtiss-Wright Export Division.
He won many decorations for his war service, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Commander of the British Empire, French Legion of Merit, and Croix de Guerre with Palm.
In 1945, he returned to the vice-presidency of Curtiss-Wright. He retired the next year because of ill health.
